FIRST TUTORIAL, LESSON 1 IS OUT
Happy Fourth of July! Composers & performers, I just released the first 3 steps from Lesson 1 from A SOPRANO THAT MODULATES FROM RELATIVE MINOR TO RELATIVE MAJOR. There are two versions: a guided tutorial, and the self-study version. Both can be found by clicking on , "Classroom," and then, "French Harmony Exercises," and then choosing from the pages on the left-hand side (TUTORIALS or STUDY GUIDE).
The guided tutorial is where I walk you through each step to realizing the exercise. Lesson 1 is getting the last phrase. The self-study is where I tell you what the homework is. and proivide the answers, with no explanations. I suggest choosing the one that best suits your learning style: the self-study method will be free, and the guided tutorial will be paid once it becomes available in full (the first 3 steps of Lesson 1 will remain free as part of the trial version).
If you want to realize the exercise in full, you can review the attached revised course outline. The entire module for Soprano Exercise #1, from Level 2 French Harmony Exercises, is divided into 4 lessons. I am currently recording and editing the remaining lessons.
When you open up the revised course outline, you will notice a few items marked in red: these are additions that I am considering adding, in order to improve the learning experience. I am leaning very heavily towards adding a quiz at the end of each lesson, in which you will have to re-realize the passage in question in a different key, using either memory or realizing on the spot. This is of course to show you what you have already forgotten or did not properly learn within the lesson, so you can diagnose problems SOONER rather than later.
I have not finalized this part, and I also do not want the tutorial to move so slowly that you lose momentum, and get stuck on the details. Part of mastering basic harmony is encountering the same problems in new contexts (one of the reasons I am leaning heavily on a quiz in a different key), which will occur once you move on to a new exercise and start to notice commonalities ACROSS KEYS.
I will be working through this in the coming days and weeks, as well as producing another harmony course for fugue readiness.
