BEST COLOR for Rules for Root Position Chords
Hi everyone, I am going to be releasing a new version of Rules for Root Position Chords on YouTube Shorts in a couple of days. I wanted your input on the following: which of these two options makes it easier for you to focus on the information? Option 1: background text is brown. Option 2: background text is yellow. Let me know if you have a strong preference. Best of luck on your harmony exercises, Barney

ORCHESTRATION: the skills you actually need
A few months ago, I released a video on YouTube called "The Danger of Orchestration Classes in America," in which I expose some of the many pesky reasons why composers leave American conservatories without the necessary skillset to orchestrate. I am making a shorts series out of this, you can check out the first one, in which I talk about the need to orchestrate the bass (something I never heard discussed in my very expensive studies in America 😀). Best of luck with your orchestrations, Barney

The Imperfect Authentic Cadence (for French Harmony Exercises)
Hi everyone, I want to remind everyone of the imperfect authentic cadence. It is a V-I progression, but unlike the perfect authentic cadence, it does not contain the tonic in the soprano for the resolution. You can watch the quick short below, or go to my website for the complete tutorial: https://www.barneyjmusic.com/fundamentalsofharmony. Scroll until you see "Cadences for Root Position Chords." Click on Episode 6. Best of luck with your independent work! -Barney

FUGUE: How to compose a beautiful fugue
Composers & performers, here is a new short that I am releasing from Suspensions in Your Fugue, in which I explain how to hear a suspension that SAYS SOMETHING in your fugue, as opposed to random or aimless suspensions. In this short, I show you a very simple technique that I use for fugue: looking for the complimentary voice for implied harmony in your fugue subject or material. Enjoy the weekend, Barney
