Every sort of business has it's pros and cons.
Here are 3 painful cons that you should be aware of and come to terms with early on if you want to become a successful coach.
The 3rd one is my favourite lol
1) Most of your clients won't do what you recommend.
As a result, they won't get the results.
Is this painful? Yes! Extremely!
Can this make you feel like you're not a good coach? Definitely.
But this is exactly what makes a recorded success story so satisfying. A recorded success story is video evidence that what you do actually works - so long as someone actually does what you suggest and never gives up! Even if you only have 1 success story, it's proof that what you do works. But if you can collect 12+ good ones, you'll have all the ammo you need to inspire every new client with proof that your pathway works.
Pro tip: Write a list of everything all of your most successful clients have in common and then give that list to your customers.
Or better yet, get your customers to watch & study all your success stories and have THEM write the list so they can really engrain the lessons themselves.
2) Customers can transform into haters.
This one is super painful, but it's the reality of this business.
If someone is not getting results, they may ask for a refund.
Ouch.
Even if you do refund them, they may still be upset they didn't get the results.
From there, they can try to ruin your reputation with slander posts, lawsuits, death threats, private DM's to other clients etc.
I've seen this happen many times + it's happened to me.
It sucks!
But it's part of the game.
Here's how to make the best of this:
If someone requests a refund or turns into a hater, add their name to a Google sheet called RED FLAGS and write a description next to their name so your sales team can be trained on WHO NOT TO SELL.
Often times these people have a lot of similarities... one of them being: "They have the vibe of someone you wouldn't want to meet in real life."
You can also use this Google sheet to train your coaches on how to prevent certain complaints.
The main complaint is usually: "I'm not getting results."
At the end of the day, an unhappy customer should be seen & treated as a major learning lesson for you on how to choose better clients to work with and how to improve your program so people can get results faster and easier.
That's why every week my team and I review all the feedback we get from our private clients and brainstorm ways to make our program better.
3) You must repeat yourself... A LOT!
I grew up with a dad would often angrily say: "How many times do I have to tell you?!" or... "If I have to tell you this ONE MORE TIME..." when his patience was wearing thin.
But I actually appreciated whenever he'd repeat himself.
It helped drill in important life advice.
And the truth is: The best advice you ever give should be repeated more than 100x.
I've watched a lot of Alex Hormozi on YouTube and I've attended 7 of his in person masterminds, and every time I listen I hear him saying something he's already said several times before.
I even asked him in private one time: "how do you not get sick of repeating yourself?" and he laughed and said "that's just part of the game, you gotta learn to love it."
So get used to repeating yourself... people will actually appreciate it.
And the more times you give a certain piece of advice, the better you'll get at it :)
Cheers,
Ted
