Assessing my own piano octave technique
Hey family! Happy Thursday. The following video is me playing octaves from two of my favorite pieces by Franz Liszt:The Mazeppa, and the Sonata in b minor.
This video is from a few years ago and one thing I want you to take note of is how I’m using my fourth and fifth fingers to play the octaves instead of just using fifth finger. This allows my octaves to be faster and causes no tension in the hand. Another thing to pay attention to is how loose the arms are which is the key to speed and fluidity.
How good are your octaves?
