You might have called them controlling. Or intense. Or just that type of boss. There's a term for it and it's autocratic leadership. One person. All the power. No checks. It's not always loud. Sometimes it's quiet, a room where everyone agrees because disagreeing costs too much. Most founders start here. Not because they're power-hungry: Because in the beginning, one clear voice is what keeps everything moving. Because that's how they're built, that's their blind spots. The question isn't whether you've led this way. It's whether you noticed when it stopped working. Before you change your leadership, understand it. “I’ll start when things are better”?
When I have more time. When I feel more ready. When everything finally makes sense. It sounds reasonable in the moment. But the truth is, waiting for perfect conditions often becomes a habit. And before we know it, we’ve spent more time preparing than actually starting. If our progress depends on everything being perfect, we will always find a reason not to begin. Because life is rarely perfect. There will always be something missing. More time. More confidence. More clarity. But the people who move forward are not the ones who had everything figured out. They are the ones who started anyway. They built in the middle of uncertainty. They learned while moving. They figured it out as they went. So maybe the question is not “Am I ready?” Maybe it’s this: Am I willing to start… even like this?
Tim Ferriss Productivity Strategy to Reset, Get Unstuck, and Focus on the Right Things
Eight-step process for maximizing efficacy, which is doing the right thing. 1. Wake up at least an hour before you have to be at a computer screen. 2. Make a cup of tea and sit down with a pen or pencil and paper. 3. Write down three to five things and no more that are making you most anxious or uncomfortable. 4. For each item ask yourself "if this was the only thing I accomplished today would I be satisfied with my day". 5. Look only at the items you've answered yes to for at least one of those. 6. Block out at least 2 to three hours to focus on one of them for today. One. 7. I'm repeating to be clear, block out at least 2 to three hours to focus on one of them for today. This is one block of time 8. If you get distracted or start procrastinating, happens to everybody, don't freak out and downward spiral just gently come back to your one to-do.

Ready to start the business. Ready to apply for the opportunity. Ready to pursue the dream we keep thinking about. But the uncomfortable truth is this: readiness is often an illusion. Confidence rarely appears before action. It usually comes after we take the first step. The people who move forward in life aren’t the ones who felt completely prepared. They’re the ones who decided to begin despite the uncertainty. Because progress doesn’t come from waiting for the perfect moment. It comes from starting before we feel ready… and growing along the way.
