I haven't posted in here since August 1. I want to name that before anything else, because a quiet room is its own kind of message and it's not the one I meant to send. Some of you joined in the last few weeks and walked into silence. That's on me. So here's the honest version of where I've been. That last post went up from Lisbon. I didn't get back stateside until the 5th, so the first week of August was travel and I'm not going to apologize for that one. Then it was straight back into the 9 to 5, which still owns most of my daylight and will keep owning it until the numbers say otherwise. Y'all know that's the whole reason this community exists. Then I got my wisdom teeth taken out, which humbled me completely. Grown man on the couch with ice on his face, unable to eat anything with texture, watching the to-do list get longer. Nothing profound about it. It just took a week I wasn't planning to give away. Everything left over after all of that went into building. Not building for me this time, building for other people. I've spent most of the last month deep in web3, putting together apps that let somebody prove they are who they say they are without handing their whole life over to a stranger. Verification stuff. Identity stuff. The kind of thing where you sit with a problem for three days, get it wrong twice, and the fix ends up being four lines. It's the most technical work I've done in a while and I've loved it. But it's also invisible work. Nobody sees it. There's no post to make on a day where the win is "the signature finally verified in production." And this week I'm heading to New York for Fashion Week. My wife is in fashion, this is her world, and I'm going to go be present in it instead of trying to work through it. I'm telling y'all that because I want to be honest that not every week is a grind week and I'm not going to pretend otherwise in here. Here's the thing I actually keep learning, and it's the reason I'm writing this at all. There's a gap between work happening and work being visible, and that gap will make you feel like a fraud on both ends. When you're building quietly you feel like you're falling behind because there's nothing to show. When you finally show something people assume it appeared overnight. Neither one is true. The month I said nothing was the month I did the most.

I turn 27 today. I'm writing this from Lisbon and honestly I've been sitting here trying to figure out how to say this without it sounding like a highlight reel. So let me just be real with y'all, because this is the inner circle and I don't post like this anywhere else. There was a stretch where I was sleeping in the back of the office at my grandma's house. Not a bedroom. The office. That's not a story I tell on Instagram. But it's the part that matters, because everything after it only makes sense with that as the starting line. 21, I finished my undergrad at NC A&T. 22, I started at Northrop Grumman. 23, Travelled the world 24, I finished my master's. 25, I bought a house on my birthday. 26, I married my wife. 27, I'm across the ocean watching the sun go down over a city I never thought I'd see. I didn't think I'd be this far. I want to be honest about that. I had goals, but there's a difference between having a goal and actually believing it's coming. Somewhere in there the believing part caught up. Here's what I actually want you to take from this, because I'm not posting to be congratulated. Every single one of those years, I felt behind. All of them. Even the good ones. When I was finishing the masters I felt behind. When I closed on the house I was already stressed about the mortgage. The feeling of being behind never left, it just changed what it was pointed at. So if you're in here feeling like you're late, understand that the feeling doesn't go away when you win. You just have to keep moving with it. And none of this was me. I say that plainly. "Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights" (James 1:17). I didn't out-hustle anybody into a life like this. God kept opening doors I had no business walking through, and I just tried to keep showing up on time. I am blessed and highly favored! Right now I'm in the messiest middle I've been in. Five entities, a lot built, revenue not where I want it. I'm not standing on a mountain telling you how I got here. I'm mid-climb telling you what I see from this spot.

I went in for a cut this weekend and my barber Devon mentioned he wanted to clean up his logo. Make it look more luxury so he could put it on shirts and merch. I didn't pull out a contract. I opened Gemini right there and started mocking up directions. A few iterations later he looked at it and said "perfect." I didn't charge him. On purpose. Here's what most people miss: that "free" job wasn't free. I walked out with a case study, a testimonial, and proof I can offer brand and logo design as a real service. One afternoon of providing value turned into an asset I'll use to close paying work for months. Three things I want you to take from this: 1. The tools are already in your hands. I did this with AI you have access to right now. The barrier was never the tool. It was starting. 2. 2. Provide value first, harvest proof second. Do one thing free for someone who'll brag about it. Then ask for the testimonial and the referral while they're still smiling. 3. 3. Done beats perfect. I didn't overthink it. I mocked up, showed him, adjusted, shipped. Before and after below.
