**CHAMPIONS LISTEN FIRST**
This week in our Champions Character classes, we're working on **Champions Listen First**.
The interesting thing is that listening isn't just a skill for children. It's a skill that some of the most successful adults in the world spend their lives trying to master.
Stephen Covey taught that one of the biggest problems in communication is that most people listen to reply, not to understand.
Think about that for a moment.
If listening is that important for adults, surely it's essential for children.
But here's the challenge...
If we sat children in rows of chairs and gave them a seminar on listening, would they learn it?
Probably not.
That's why we use martial arts to teach what is really important.
Life skills first. Martial arts second.
Every lesson gives children the opportunity to practise listening with their ears, eyes, body, and heart. They learn to focus, follow instructions, work with partners, and understand others.
And because they're having fun, they don't even realise how much they're learning.
Oh, and because we're on **Week 35**, the martial arts skill this week is...
**The Spinning Hook Kick!**
Now come on...
That just sounds fun!
So while the children think they're learning an awesome kick, they're also developing one of the most important life skills they'll ever need:
The ability to listen first.
