This course explores how care and support are experienced from the perspective of the individual, with a strong focus on identity, autonomy, and control. It challenges traditional approaches to care that prioritise tasks and routines, and instead encourages a more thoughtful, person-centred way of working. Through lived experience, learners are guided to understand how support can shape, limit, or reinforce a person’s sense of self. The course highlights the impact of everyday actions, language, and decisions on how individuals feel within care environments.
By combining practical examples, scenario-based learning, and reflection, the course supports staff to move beyond assumptions and see the person behind the support needs. It encourages a shift from doing tasks for someone to supporting them to remain in control of their own life.
The aim is to improve the quality of care by promoting dignity, respect, and meaningful involvement in all aspects of support.
