I know a lot of CVA is based on buying individual cards but do people ever buy packs anymore? If so, which ones (back in my day you simply chose Fleer or Topps, now, I don't know where to start)?

So my dad and I have been sitting on our old cards forever. He mostly collected from 1955-1965 and for me, mostly 1984-1994, the cards have never been graded and I'm sure many are in rough shape (see he Mickey Mantle card). But there are also boxes and boxes of cards, binders full of cards, I imagine it doesn't make sense to send them all of to a grading service? Not even sure where to start.
