Do plenty of market research on your trade in, and cars just like it. See where the market is on your car for a retail amount. Be realistic with yourself regarding the condition of your car, and the money they will deduct from their offer due to condition. Be knowledgeable going in.

You have the power in the negotiation.
They can't sell you a car without you buying it. Read that again. You have all the power. If you think something doesn't feel right, stop and analyze. You don't need to move forward unless you are comfortable doing so.
