Old Okefenokee folks didn't go out at night. They warned about ghosts, witches, "St. Elmo's Fire," "Will-o-the-Wisps," and "Fog Wraiths" — strange lights and shapes that drifted through the cypress. Modern science calls it swamp gas. The old-timers knew better than to test it either way.
