A journey of 10,000 hours always starts with 1.
Textbooks help, but being in the field is where real learning begins.😂 Nothing in midwifery is straightforward. You have to see thousands of hours of normal and variations of normal before your eye really knows what it’s looking at. We’re honored to be part of your learning hours here alongside your preceptors. 👇 Drop a comment and tell us: • Who is your preceptor? • Link their page so we can check them out and give them a follow! Let’s celebrate all the midwives and future midwives here shaping those 10,000 hours! 👏

Behind the Scenes- Day in the life of these midwives!
Last Friday, we were honored to be invited to teach alongside Dr. Gillispie-Bell at the 2026 Simulation Expo at Franciscan University in Baton Rouge. Our birth center presented to Louisiana nursing and education leaders on something we care deeply about…how to improve maternal outcomes in birth! We shared how intentional drills build teamwork, communication, and readiness when it matters most for mothers and how this can be implemented across birth centers, nursing classrooms, and even in hospital settings. And then live, right in front of them, we delivered a baby (thanks to the Mama Natalie) followed by an immediate postpartum hemorrhage and demonstrated the amazing skill of prepared and competent midwifery care to college deans, educators, clinical directors and nursing graduates. Afterward, many shared they didn’t even know we had birth centers in Louisiana, and we’ve since been invited to teach at more college campuses throughout the state. This opportunity is one we’re so grateful for and will forever remember! The first video is the entire presentation including the live drill. The short presentation in the beginning includes a pretty eye-opening presentation on maternal mortality in America. THIS IS WHY WE MIDWIFE! The second video is a behind the scenes look at our day. We had such a great time!

☕ Coffee Chat turned Science Experiment!
Our coffee chat was really fun, and somehow we ended up going down a rabbit hole about glucose, CGMs, and what actually happens in our own bodies with food, stress, sleep, call life, etc. It was one of those conversations where nobody wanted to log off 😄 So we decided… why not track together?! #MIdwiferyLab For anyone who wants to participate, it sounds like we are going to wear CGMs for a couple of weeks and then come together a few time to talk about it. I think it will be interesting to see how stress and sleep deprivation impact our glucose, and how we can connect this to midwifery nutrition counseling.... Just learning together like we always do. If you might want to participate, just comment that you're interested, and we'll come up with the dates to start and coffee chat days for the lab to add to the calendar.
