Greetings and welcome everyone to BrownCo PowerLink by BrownCo Power Solutions. Coming from a heavy equipment background, we decided to get into small engine repairs and have quickly been learning and growing around our community in Georgia. My name is Dylan. I worked as a heavy equipment mechanic for 7 years and am still in the industry working now as a Regional Service Manager for a well known equipment company for 3 and a half years. Small engine repair became a hobby and now is a business venture providing extra income. Come learn with us, and grow your own business as well. I will provide all the knowledge I can as well as request people who join this community who have done this for years to share their advice and knowledge for all things small engine. Have an idea for a topic board of discussion? Let me know and I will create that board as a helpful resource. Now, tell me about yourselves and what attracted you to our community?

The Basics of Small Engine Maintenance: Save Time – Save Money
You rely on lawn mowers, trimmers, generators, or other small engines for work or around the house; Regular maintenance is key to saving time, money, and headaches. Proper care not only extends equipment life but also improves fuel efficiency and reliability—whether you’re a homeowner or running a landscaping business. 1. Change Your Oil Regularly Oil is the lifeblood of your small engine. Skipping oil changes can lead to overheating, costly repairs, or total engine failure. Using a premium synthetic oil for small engines, such as AMSOIL, provides superior wear protection and longer drain intervals compared to conventional oils. 2. Check and Replace Air Filters A clean air filter ensures your engine “breathes” properly. Dirty filters restrict airflow, reduce horsepower, and increase fuel use. For commercial landscaping crews running equipment daily, clean filters can mean major savings on gas and reduced downtime. 3. Use Fresh, Treated Fuel Ethanol-blended gas can break down quickly and damage carburetors. Always use fresh fuel, and if your mower, generator, or trimmer will sit unused, add a fuel stabilizer such as AMSOIL Quickshot or Gasoline Stabilizer to prevent costly starting problems later. If you have the ability to run ethanol free fuel, this would be best. BrownCo Power Solutions advises to use ethanol-blended fuel in your mower within thirty days before getting fresh fuel. 4. Inspect Spark Plugs Replacing spark plugs annually helps ensure quick starts and smooth operation. This small, inexpensive step saves hours of frustration when your equipment refuses to start in peak season. 5. Perform Routine Equipment Checks Look over belts, blades, and cables regularly. Early detection of small issues prevents expensive breakdowns—especially important for landscaping businesses that depend on their equipment every day.
