Virtue isn’t real until it’s tested.
If there are no beggars around to help, can you truly call yourself generous?
If nothing challenges your patience, can you really say you’re patient?
Of course not. Real virtue is tested virtue.
You might ask, “What about the angels—how were they tested?”
Easy: the fall.
They had a choice. They could’ve sided with Satan and believed his lies, but they chose to remain obedient to God.
Humanity’s virtue, it seems, has been tested more than any other creature’s.
And Christ, of course, was tested most of all.
So consider it joy when your virtue is tested—it’s shaping you to become more like Christ.
And the Lord knows, we all need that refining!
