Audience of One
Your audience is God. Perform for Him.
I wanted to write this post because I’d been slacking in my training.
I wasn’t doing difficult workouts. I didn’t feel challenged. I’d plateaued.
And when my training plateaus, everything else seems to as well…
I woke up today feeling sluggish — tired, body aching from football yesterday.
I honestly wasn’t in the mood to train. But of course, you show up.
During today’s boxing session, I was aiming for 7 rounds of 3 minutes each on the bag. I got to the end of round 4 and I was knackered. But with only 3 rounds left, I told myself I could do it.
Then, at the beginning of round 5, I was reminded of the phrase “Audience of One.”
It refers to doing your actions for God’s eyes alone — to seek His approval, not man’s.
What happened next? I ended up doing 12 rounds of 3 minutes each.
Five more than I’d planned. And I could’ve kept going.
Why? Because I was striving for the approval of One — God Almighty. I wanted to impress Him.
It’s an incredibly powerful mindset.
It gives you:
  • focus
  • energy
  • purpose
It takes you far beyond what you think you can do.
Everyone craves approval. Everyone likes being watched when they perform. But coming from the Almighty, it’s infinitely greater.
Just think about this for a second — God is greater than every being He has made, even when all their value is combined.
That means if every single being in creation watched your performance, but God didn’t… it would still be greater to have only God watching and no one else.
And remember, that’s what happens every time you train alone.
Perform for God. Your audience is Him.
