I did it! First I.T. Job Ever
Today I was offered a job as a Digital Technology Support Specialist at a local heavy vehicle manufacturing plant. I accepted the offer. Early in July of this year, I opened ChatGPT and asked "Give me a list of 100 good paying manual labour jobs in [my area]." It gave me a list of 100 jobs. None of which I was interested in. But, I told the AI my situation "I’ve worked as a line cook, PSW, DSW, and tutor for students with developmental disabilities, but after 10 years in support work, I went back to cooking. My current job doesn’t pay enough to support a family, and I want a better-paying role with benefits but hope to avoid more student debt." One of the jobs listed was IT support / entry-level tech. I thought to myself, 'hey I could do that.' In three and a half months: 1 certification 45 applications 1 phone interview 2 in-person interviews 1 job offer (accepted) Three and a half months of applying to jobs every week, studying for CompTIA exams everday, learning labs and recording videos about my home lab every week, and eventually getting my first I.T. certification. Proud of myself. Now the real fun begins.

🚨 How to Get Hired as a SOC Analyst
Most people think passing Security+ is enough to get hired as a SOC Analyst. The hard truth is employers want proof that I can investigate, think, and communicate. 🔍 That’s why I focus on building projects instead of collecting random certifications. 💻 I learn traffic analysis, practice with SIEM tools, document my findings, and publish my work in a portfolio. 📊 I also tailor my resume to SOC roles instead of applying with a generic resume everywhere. 📄 Those small decisions make me look like someone who is already solving SOC problems instead of someone hoping for a chance. 🎯 I put together a simple roadmap that shows exactly what to focus on first. 🤖 AI Changed Entry-Level Cyber
Most people think AI is taking cybersecurity jobs. I think it's doing something much more important. It's raising the bar. A year ago, knowing a few tools and passing a certification could help you stand out. Today, AI can explain concepts, write scripts, summarize logs, and even help build projects. That means employers expect more from candidates. They want people who can think, verify, solve problems, and explain their work. The people winning aren't avoiding AI. They're using it to learn faster while still building real skills. If you're still preparing for the job market from two years ago, you're competing in the wrong game.
