Cozy Holiday Herb Infusions 1-5

1. Cinnamon
- Benefit (food use): A warming spice rich in antioxidants, often used to support healthy blood sugar balance when included regularly in food.
- Tip: A little goes a long way. Perfect with apples, oats, sweet potatoes, cocoa, and coffee.
- Holiday Recipe – Cinnamon Maple Roasted Sweet Potatoes Toss 3 cups cubed sweet potatoes with 2 tbsp olive oil, 2 tbsp maple syrup, 1 tsp ground cinnamon, and a pinch of salt. Roast at 400°F for 25–30 minutes, flipping once.
2. Clove
- Benefit: Strong aromatic spice traditionally used in warming blends and digestive support.
- Tip: Whole cloves are intense. Use lightly and remove before serving if left whole.
- Holiday Recipe – Orange Clove Glaze (for Ham or Tofu)Simmer 1 cup orange juice, ¼ cup brown sugar, 6 whole cloves, and 1 tbsp Dijon mustard until slightly thickened. Brush over ham or tofu in the last 20 minutes of baking.
3. Nutmeg
- Benefit: Classic baking spice that adds warmth, comfort, and depth to creamy dishes and drinks.
- Tip: Freshly grated nutmeg has way more flavor than pre-ground. Use just a pinch.
- Holiday Recipe – Nutmeg Eggnog Mocktail Whisk 2 cups milk or oat milk, 2 tbsp maple syrup, 1 tsp vanilla, and ¼ tsp ground nutmeg. Serve chilled or warmed, topped with an extra pinch of nutmeg.
4. Allspice
- Benefit: Tastes like a blend of cinnamon, clove, and nutmeg in one berry; perfect for holiday flavor.
- Tip: Use in pies, marinades, jerk-style seasonings, and cranberry dishes.
- Holiday Recipe – Spiced Allspice Cranberry Sauce Simmer 12 oz fresh cranberries, 1 cup orange juice, ½ cup sugar, and ½ tsp ground allspice until berries burst and sauce thickens.
5. Ginger
- Benefit: Commonly used to support digestion and help ease nausea and stomach discomfort.
- Tip: Fresh ginger brings heat and bite; powdered ginger is softer and sweeter.
- Holiday Recipe – Honey Ginger Glazed Carrots. Cook 4 cups sliced carrots until just tender. In a pan, warm 2 tbsp butter or oil, 2 tbsp honey, 1 tsp grated fresh ginger, and a pinch of salt. Toss carrots in the glaze until shiny.
