Shakes Boston Photo Club is a social club for people who want to take better pictures of the city they live in. Bring a phone or a camera. Come alone or bring a friend. Beginners are welcome.
Twice a month we meet somewhere in Boston for a street photography walk: Dorchester, Chinatown, the North End, Roxbury, JP, the Harborwalk and beyond. We shoot for a couple of hours, then sit down to eat and swap pictures.
Every Monday there's a new photo theme, and every weekend we meet online to look at the best work of the week. Six short lessons cover the basics: light, composition, timing, photographing strangers, street etiquette and choosing your best shots.
The club runs in seasons, and each one ends with a printed zine and a pop-up show of members' work here in Boston.
Led by Orett "Bobby Shakes" Robinson, who has photographed people in this city for decades and documented over 10,000 live events.
