A soul mate, to me, is someone who enters and exits your life with grace, compassion, and love. Having experienced childhood sexual abuse, I knew my path to intimacy had to prioritize absolute bodily autonomy. This structure became essential when later life events heightened my triggers, making conventional intimacy feel unsafe.
My first profound soul connection was beautiful, though circumstances beyond our control led to a necessary parting.
Shortly after, I met my current partner—my anchor and the soul I have shared the past 14 years of my life with. Our relationship began with radical acceptance, built on the secure knowledge that I was a safe harbor for him to explore his own relational needs, and critically, a safe place for me to define my own sexuality. We navigated significant challenges, evolving from a place of insecurity to one of unconditional safety and clear communication, setting the ethical foundation for the life we intentionally chose to build together.
