Calories matter for energy balance. But two meals with similar calories can provide very different amounts of protein, fiber, vitamins, minerals and satiety. A simple way to improve your meals is to ask: • Does this meal contain a good protein source? • Does it include vegetables, fruit or another nutrient-rich whole food? • Will it keep me satisfied? • Is most of it minimally processed? You don’t need to calculate every nutrient in every meal. Start by improving the quality of the foods you eat most often. Calories tell you how much energy food provides. Food quality tells you much more about what comes with those calories. Better Every Day.
