Need advice
Ace and I started the transition from the yard to some brush yesterday. Could be quail in the area (should be!) but we didn’t see any. Definitely dove, rabbits, and other rodents so lots of smells. I noticed immediately his breathing changed the moment he got out of his kennel and onto the trail.
I need some advice. He was pulling like crazy and it was difficult to hold him back regardless of how I used the check cord to correct him.
Should I slow down? Shorten the cord? Be patient and give him a few more visits to adjust? Tug harder on the cord? He just wants to go and obviously needs help with control. It was an upper body workout for me trying to hold him back. (Not a bad thing! But not a habit I want him to develop)
We’ve been consistently working come go with me and recall at least 20 minutes a day for the past two weeks. That has been going well and he is easy to control in my neighborhood-the trail is another story.
I appreciate help/insights. Thanks!
