I'm Bradley
Hi everyone! My name is Brad and I'm currently in my sophomore year of college, a criminal justice major, and a national guardsman. My freshman year was tough for me financially. I struggled to find a balance between having fun and being responsible with my money. My short-term money goal is to save up money to start backpacking. I've always loved nature, though I never had the budget to buy camping equipment. Hoping to start a backpacking club on campus in the future! My long-term money goal is to be able to afford a house in my twenties, through saving, investing, and taking control of my spending. With this community, I hope to help out fellow students so they don't have to make the same money mistakes I made!

My Budget
My college income comes from two sources: + Part-time job at the campus radio station + National Guard drill pay and education stipend What do I do with it? Since I've started getting off my family plans for insurance and bills, these take up about 10% of my income (Mine might be a lower percentage of my income than others since I use military life & health insurance) For my current subscriptions, I use student plans offered by Amazon Prime and Spotify Premium (must-haves for students). I always set aside about 20% of my money to just have fun with, from eating out with friends to buying new things for my dorm. Right now I feel comfortable investing about 50% of my money in my brokerage account with Robinhood since I've always been interested in passive investing and letting my money grow over time. With the remaining 20%, I simply keep it in my savings account as a sort of "emergency fund" that is easily accessible if I ever need to buy something quickly!

My Experience
My college offers dozens of student jobs on campus with hours that fit right into your schedule. I had always wanted to be some sort of radio personality (I love the sound of my own voice too much), and I was just in luck. My campus has their own student-ran radio station, and I love every minute working there. I am the local weather forecaster and a news anchor for the campus area all week! One of the best pros about campus jobs is that it is often easy to be promoted since people in charge of student-ran organizations end up graduating. These higher level positions always look amazing on your resumΓ©. πŸ’Έ
