Many heelers and other cattle dog breeds who have been in shelters or bad situations do not tolerate being transported to other locations, especially in confining crates. Their typical response is that of fear. growling and snapping teeth and this all too often tags them as aggressive. Now this tag at high kill shelters will result in unnecessary euthanization.

How to Tell the Difference: Happy/Inviting: Floppy, loose body, relaxed mouth (maybe panting), soft eyes, tail wagging. Fearful/Uncomfortable: Tense muscles, tail tucked, closed mouth, stiff posture, averted eyes, or even submissive urination. I welcome more interaction and discussions on this subject.
