Insulated vs Non-Insulated Fire Box.
An Insulated Firebox uses a double-walled steel construction filled with high-temperature insulation (like mineral wool). This design keeps the heat inside the box, drastically reducing the amount of wood needed and making the smoker easier to run in cold or windy weather. A Non-Insulated Firebox is a single layer of steel that radiates heat outward, requiring more fuel to maintain internal temperatures but costing significantly less upfront.
