Poll: Natural vs. Dyed?
Do you prefer working with natural or dyed basketry materials? A. Natural all the way for me! B. Dyed - I love color, the more saturated the better. C. A mix, but I prefer more muted, nature-inspired color. D. It depends on the project. Don't pin me down😋 This poll is for fun - but it will also tell us what to focus on, so the more people that chime in, the better. Waffling and paragraphs of explanation are welcome - we love verbal processing around here🤔💬💬💬

June Challenge - Nothing But Scraps🧺
Happy Monday weavers! Time for a fun challenge. Your mission: Weave a basket using nothing but scrap reed. Dig into that tangle and use what you've got — odd lengths, leftover colors, random bits. Any of these patterns work beautifully with scraps: - Scrappy Basket (especially great for color scraps) - Bread Basket - The Garlic (perfect for round reed scraps) - Hanging Vase Baskets - Tobacco Tray - Candle Lantern Or design your own. There are no rules here — just use what's already lying about, threatening to engulf you like a hydra.😂 When you're done, come back and post a photo. Let's see what you make.

New in the Classroom - Cordage and foraged basketry
We added a new course to the Classroom. Jason from A Great Alternative gave us permission to link his cordage series — and we're genuinely thrilled to include it. He's always experimenting with something interesting, and his filmmaking is next level. We'll keep building this course out as we all explore foraged basketry together. There's so much ground to cover — materials, methods, regional variations. Foraged basketry is best done as a village. Go to the Classroom tab and check it out.
Sun Hat Workshop is Here!
Hello lovely weavers! The Sun Hat workshop has just gone live, and just in time for the weekend! Woohoo! You can find it in the Classroom. The video sessions will guide you through the techniques you will need to complete your hat. You will need to rely on the instruction manual pretty heavily for sizing and for specific notes as you move through construction. I did my best to create an accurate size guide that will fit a wide range of sizes. Please note this is a guideline, not hard and fast rules as heads and hats can be many different shapes and sizing for this project isn't a precise science. If you run into problems feel free to share them in the Get Help community tab and I will do my best to assist you. Sharing photos of your issues is always super helpful. You can include photos in your question posts if you like. Thank you all for your excitement and patience for this workshop! I'm super excited to be sharing it. A lot of love and mental gymnastics went into making this one. Baskets don't usually have to end up being specific sizes, so it took all my garment construction experience to work out how to communicate creating a good fit😁. Happy weaving!
