First interview and that too an positive experience.
Long post : Read fully
For the past 6 months I was applying for jobs and continously networking in LinkedIn. One of my connection reposted a job and I applied for that. I also modified my resume exactly matching to the JD. At the same time I send connection request to few peoples working in that company. The role was exactly same what I am doing in India.
Luckily my request got accepted by the CEO itself. I had a discussion with him in LinkedIn and explained about my profile. He asked about relocation and interview availability, I given two dates and told no constraints on timing. After that I didn’t followed up, but later I received a mail from them and it was interview schedule.
I was happy but also little bit fear about my German language. I got some advices and tips from ameen bro.
On the interview day I prepared my self introduction in German very well and also technical keywords in German. I had a fear like what if they speak full interview in German. So I also prepared how to politely ask to switch technical discussion in English.
I joined the interview before 10 mins in Teams and waited. CEO, recruiter and head of sales joined on correct time. After greetings in German I politely asked can we continue technical part in English and they agreed. I felt relaxed but still I gave my intro fully in German and technical answers in English with some German keywords.
Technical round went well, they asked around 7 questions and said I have good experience and they are looking for international candidate like me. We discussed salary, relocation timeline and CEO even shared about his apartment rent details. So I was confident that interview went positive.
At the end they asked me to wait for 2–3 weeks. I waited without disturbing. After 3 weeks I send a mail and also LinkedIn message. Unfortunately I didn’t got selected. I have attached the rejection reason also, and it was still somewhat positive — due to urgent filling of the position they moved with another candidate.
Key takeaways from this: be consistant, be active in LinkedIn always and keep doing networking. One more thing, just yesterday I got a referral in another company through networking and my profile already moved to HR. If everything goes well, interview will get scheduled — again because of networking.
Thanks to ameen bro for the guidance.
