Hi, All!
I recently produced an epic cover of a song by another artist from a trailer music library I work with. It was my first time producing vocals, and after several rounds of revisions, the mix wasn’t quite right for the library’s head of licensing, so they’ve suggested we put the track on hold. I want to rescue the project now rather than wait, but I feel my vocal mixing skills have hit a bit of a ceiling, so I’m considering outsourcing the mix.
For those with experience working for libraries, what are the general rules around hiring an external mixing engineer who isn’t affiliated with the library? If I specify that they are working for a one-off fee without any claim to royalties or credit, would that be acceptable?
Additionally, how should I prepare my Pro Tools project for an external engineer? Do I need to bounce all MIDI tracks to .wav stems and provide both dry and processed vocal stems?
Thanks in advance for the help!
