Here’s the exact method I used.
I’ve been asked so many times how I sell art on facebook, and the truth is:
Selling on Facebook isn’t any different from selling art at an exhibition.
We often think it requires completely different skills.
But it doesn’t.
Let’s break down how you actually do it:
1. Show your art (just like in an exhibition or gallery)
- Where do you do that on Facebook? Think of communities or Facebook groups. These are full of real people. But here’s the key: think outside the box.
- Avoid joining art collector groups because they’re usually filled with other artists. Instead, ask yourself: Who is my ideal customer? What interests do they have? What groups would they most likely join?
2. Start conversations (just like you would at an exhibition)
- Don’t expect people to message you out of the blue wanting to buy your art. That rarely happens. You need to initiate conversations.
- If you think this feels “salesy,” you’re holding yourself back. Think about it this way: if you put in the effort to create an exhibition, people show up to see your art, but you don’t say hello to anyone—it would be weird, right?
3. Build connections
Once you start a conversation, keep it going. Build a genuine connection. Ask the right questions, like:
- What do they like about the painting?
- Why do they love the colors?
- Does it remind them of something, like the ocean?
You can also share the meaning behind your art or the story of how you created it.
4. Ask for the sale
- “Ask” is the most powerful three-letter word. We often overcomplicate this step because we think there’s some magical word or trick that makes people buy. There isn’t. If you follow these steps, you’ll naturally reach this point.
- When the time feels right, simply ask if they’re interested in owning the piece. For example: “It seems like this work really speaks to you. Would you like to take it home?”
That’s exactly how I sold a piece for $24,000, just by asking.
This is the simplest way to explain how to sell art on Facebook.

These are timeless principles.
If you keep these steps in mind, you’ll sell art.
Sometimes, we get caught up in other things though.
We spend a whole month in the studio painting and then wonder why we haven’t sold anything.
- Did you do Step 1? Did you show your art somewhere? If not, now you know why.
- If you did, did you start conversations? If not, that’s where you got stuck.
- If you started conversations, did you build connections? Did you find common interests? If not, there’s your answer.
- If you did all of that, did you ask for the sale? If not, now you know.
Keep repeating the cycle
You can’t expect the first person to say yes. You have to keep repeating the process until someone does.
The biggest hurdle is doubt. Don’t doubt yourself.
Keep going. If you show up with good energy, it’ll happen.
