Ask a former professional player to take an afternoon off and watch their face. Most of us feel guilty resting, even when we're exhausted.
There's a reason for it. For years, rest was scheduled by someone else. The coach said it was a recovery day, so it was allowed. You never had to decide for yourself that you'd earned it.
Then you retire, start a business, and nobody schedules your recovery any more. So rest starts to feel like slacking, and you keep going until something forces you to stop: illness, an injury flaring up, or burning out.
One thing to try: put recovery in your calendar the way the coach used to. A named block, on a set day, decided in advance. When it's planned, it stops feeling like skipping training.
