J Wils — Artist Biography

J Wils is a multi-talented independent Hip-Hop and R&B artist, rapper, singer, songwriter, and producer whose sound blends the soul of R&B, the energy of Hip-Hop, and the vibrant rhythms of Afrobeats. Born in Liberia, West Africa, J Wils carries a global perspective shaped by his childhood experiences, cultural roots, and lifelong connection to music.

Before he was a recording artist, J Wils was a young creator discovering rhythm in everyday life. Growing up in Liberia, West Africa, he developed his love for music through the sounds that filled his home. Before the age of 12, his aunt would play classic 1970s music and hold dance competitions between him and his cousins. J Wils consistently won, discovering early that rhythm, movement, and musical expression were part of who he was.

His imagination and passion for music continued to grow. As a child, he would create homemade turntables using styrofoam and baboon sticks, pretending to DJ and perform records.

“Born 2 Ryze” was created during one of the most challenging moments of my journey.

I created the name for my movement during a time when I was close to giving up. After facing financial struggles, setbacks, and the pressure of building a music business while not being where I felt I needed to be, I found myself questioning if I should continue.

But something inside of me shifted.

Instead of focusing on what I had not accomplished yet, I looked back at everything I had already overcome. I remembered the moments where I showed up, created, sacrificed, and achieved things I once dreamed about. That reflection reminded me that my story was not over.

I realized I was not starting from nothing. I was building from experience.

“Born 2 Ryze” became a reminder that greatness is not defined by temporary circumstances. It is defined by the ability to rise again, rebuild, and continue becoming the highest version of yourself.

This song was created to give listeners a feeling of healing from doubt, fear, and disbelief. I want people to press play and remember that their current situation does not determine their future.

The purpose of this record is to awaken belief.

To remind people that they have greatness inside of them.

To inspire them to take action toward their dreams, even when the journey feels difficult.
