Assignment 1 — Artist Biography
Karma's Tea is a retro-inspired R&B, soul, and funk duo from Long Island, New York, founded by keyboardist, composer, and producer Mike Desroches and singer-songwriter Mystina Sol. After meeting while performing through the same music agency, they became longtime friends before eventually working together at Mike's music school, which they now own and operate together. As their relationship grew, they began writing songs while living the very experiences that inspired them, turning deeply personal moments into honest, heartfelt music. Inspired by their own journey, they create soulful music under the banner of Love Without Permission, exploring the courage to choose relationships that feel genuine, even when the world doesn't understand them. During the COVID-19 pandemic, they transformed years of songwriting into the Karma's Tea project. Their debut single, "What Do You Do," earned a place on Amazon's Worldwide Jazz chart, and after spending years with an independent label, they chose to continue their journey independently, remaining true to the vision behind their music.
