This week’s prompt is all about capturing your favorite corner - without drafting an architectural blueprint. You aren't taking inventory; you're capturing a mood, and you hold the edit button! How to tackle it: 1) Pick 2 or 3 "Hero Objects": Focus on key items that tell the story of the space (a favorite chair, vinyl records, a cozy mug). Draw those first. 2) Edit Out the Noise: Intentionally leave out at least 3 distracting details you see in real life (screens, cables, floorboards, light switches). 3) Use Color Pops: Place a few bold splashes of color on a mostly blank page, to give the drawing breathing room while guiding the eye. 👇 Drop your sketch and reference photo in the comments below! There’s something wonderfully liberating about drawing on dark paper. Working with light colors on a dark background completely shifts your brain. You stop worrying about “correct” colors and start hunting for highlights, contrast, and form. It instantly snaps you out of perfectionist mode! The Challenge: Grab any dark paper you have (a black sketchbook, construction paper, or even a dark envelope) and draw a house, storefront, or favorite building. Use whatever tools will show up: pastel colored pencils, white gel pens, or gouache. Focus on capturing the feel of the building, not an exact architectural rendering. Tips to kept it quick and anti-perfectionist: - No window counting. I didn't worry about getting the exact number of panes or beams, just broad marks to suggest the rhythm. - Loose impressions! Under the restaurant awning, a quick scribble of table legs and chairs was all it took to suggest an outdoor cafe. - Let the paper do the work. Bright white gel pen highlights make it pop, while the black paper automatically handles all the shadows. Grab your dark paper, pick a building, and give yourself permission to just play!
