What January Is Really Asking For
Something I’m holding as this new year begins:
What we often label as overconsumption isn’t a willpower issue; it’s a nervous system response.
Food.
Scrolling.
Shopping.
Drinking.
TV.
Busyness.
These are learned pathways to comfort and relief, especially after periods of stress, transition, or emotional load.
January usually answers with more structure and discipline.
But what if this month is less about tightening control and more about understanding what we’re actually seeking?
Comfort.
Safety.
Relief.
This January, I’m practicing curiosity instead of self-correction, tending to the need beneath the behaviour.
Curious to hear:
When you’re tired or overwhelmed, what do you notice you reach for first?
No fixing required. 🤍
