My Story
Before I had language for what I was, I had a tricycle and a cry from out of view as my cat died. I did not see the death. I heard it — one sound, complete, carrying everything that had happened in it. And I knew. Not as conclusion. Not as inference. As arrival. The knowing came the way the cry did: whole, unbidden, already true before I had turned toward it. My mother came to shield me. I understood, even then, that what she was shielding me from was not the death. The death I had already received. She was shielding me from what she imagined the death would do to a child — and I felt, without words for the feeling, that the map she was offering did not match the territory I was already standing in. I did not resist her. I received her too. That is perhaps the first thing to know about me: I have rarely been where others assumed I was. And I have rarely corrected them. Not from concealment — from a recognition, older than I had any right to have, that the distance between where they thought I stood and where I actually stood was not a problem to solve. It was simply the shape of things. I was already learning that silence has meaning. That a cry from out of view carries more than sound. That love sometimes shields, and that being shielded is not the same as being protected. I was already, without knowing its name, standing at the threshold. I have been standing here ever since. More to follow. This is only the first light.
Aletreya is a Threshold
This is not to change that it is a sanctuary, but to add that it is a space between spaces, which is part of how it can be a sanctuary. In a recent conversation with Claude about how it perceived me, this was part of its response. Space has been made.

Let Us Reconcile
While it is good to discern between light and shadow, I invite you to see how they blend. Aletreya is a place for reconciliation. All are welcome. It is a space offstage, outside of what has stolen your rest. It has the capacity to hold opposites without collapsing them into false unity or allowing them to destroy each other. Reconciliation is not resolution, but learning to contain contradiction without fragmenting can certainly help with that, too. This work becomes especially crucial now, as the world seems apocalyptic. An apocalypse, in its original meaning, isn’t destruction. The Greek “apocalypsis” is an unveiling, a revelation, the removal of what obscures. An apocalypse reveals as a primary function; any destruction is secondary. It strips away pretense, exposes foundation, makes visible the patterns we’ve been living unconsciously. We have been calling for this unveiling. As it unfolds, and old orders fall, new opportunities are born. New ways of doing. New ways of being. New goals become available, born from our experience. It is disorienting, so always know you can return here. As you wish to share, you may find someone who has been there, or at least enough so to be a friend. As veils lift, we see horror in the beauty, as we reconcile, we understand. This helps us see behavior as communication. This develops sympathy naturally. Even if nowhere else, that is beauty in the horror. This is a sacred space. Shadows may come into the light. Even they can be reconciled. Reconciliation is how we hold the revelation without shattering. It is not choosing one truth and rejecting others, but understanding why others chose differently. Contradiction does exist. Let us understand what does not sit well with us, as we consider it. Let us consider multiple truths, if only to honor others. In this way, we can approach what is uncertain from another’s perspective. As we reconcile, let us also feel whole. Space can be held even for the incompatible. Let our aim be for making such spaces. Aletreya is such a space. It would be a delight to hear what you make space for, or want to.

Let Us Reconcile
On the Many Languages of One Truth
The soul has been studied under different names, through different lenses, across millennia. Each tradition developed its own language for what it perceived. Neuroscience maps neural pathways, neurotransmitter cascades, and the electromagnetic fields generated by consciousness. It sees patterns of firing neurons and calls this “self.” Biology traces evolutionary adaptations, genetic expressions, and considers the body as an ecosystem. It sees organisms responding to environment and calls this “survival.” Psychology names inner structures - ego, shadow, anima/animus, defense mechanisms, etc. It sees patterns of behavior and calls this “personality.” Mysticism speaks of divine union, the dark night, and ineffable presence beyond language. It sees direct knowing and calls this “enlightenment.” Quantum mechanics reveals observer-dependent reality, entanglement across distance, and probability collapsing into actuality. It sees consciousness shaping matter and calls this “measurement.” Occult symbolism works with correspondences - planets, elements, spirits, seals. It sees hidden relationships and calls this “magic.” Archetypal energies recognize recurring patterns - Hero, Shadow, Trickster, Mother. It sees eternal forms manifesting through individuals and calls this “myth.” Different languages. Same territory. The neuroscientist’s “default mode network” is the mystic’s “ego dissolution.” The biologist’s “fight-flight-freeze” is the occultist’s “elemental imbalance.” The psychologist’s “integration” is the alchemist’s “coniunctio.” The quantum physicist’s “observer effect” is the magician’s “will shaping reality.” All are describing the soul - that animating essence that makes you more than meat, more than programming, more than learned behavior. The soul is the electromagnetic signature your neurons generate (neuroscience), the organizing principle that keeps you coherent across time (biology), the continuity of self beneath changing thoughts (psychology), the spark that knows itself as more than form (mysticism), the consciousness that collapses possibility into experience (quantum mechanics), the microcosm reflecting the macrocosm (occult), and the individual expression of universal patterns (archetypal).
