Hey AIographers,
Something big dropped today!
MidJourney just rolled out its External Image Editor—and it’s about to give Photoshop a serious run for its money. Imagine taking any image from your computer, and then expanding, cropping, repainting, or totally transforming it. You can add elements or modify the scene entirely using nothing but text prompts and region selection. It’s like magic with a paintbrush, but smarter. 🎨🖼️
What can you do?
- Expand and crop images
- Repaint sections of a scene
- Modify lighting, materials, and surfaces with the new Image Retexturing Mode that recognizes the shape of the scene and adjusts the look!
- All actions are text-prompted and region-selectable
- It supports personal styles, character references, and model customization, making it a beast of an editor!
Sounds like it’s going to revolutionize creative workflows, right? But before you dive in, there are a few prerequisites to get access to this early testing phase:
- You need to have generated at least 10,000 images in MidJourney.
- Be a yearly member.
- Monthly subscribers for the past 12 months are also eligible.
Known issues? It’s still in testing, so don’t be surprised if a tiny head you try to outpaint ends up with a massive body 😂. Or if a super small region edit doesn’t go as planned. It’s all part of the fun (and the refinement process).
As a bonus, they’re also rolling out a next-gen AI moderator, which is being fine-tuned to holistically examine your prompts, painting masks, and output images to make things even smoother.
So for all you lucky peeps with access, get in there and start creating! Whether you’re redesigning your living room or crafting the next fashion trend, the MidJourney External Editor is ready to unlock some serious potential.
Check out the video and let’s see what you make!
