The first three images are raw screenshots from my vlog: fisheye distortion, flat grey sky, awkward angles. The last three are what ChatGPT made from them in about 2–3 minutes. Same face, same clothes, same locations. Now they look like proper photos with a blurred background, better light, and room for text. Why this matters: Your videos are already full of thumbnail photos. You just need a way to clean them up, and this is it. No reshoot, no designer needed.

YouTube will soon be able to swap your thumbnail on its own if it decides it's underperforming. Here's what its new AI can do, and the one thing it still can't. What changed: YouTube's "Ask Studio" makes thumbnail options from your title, description and channel style, and you refine them by chatting with it. YouTube is also rolling out Dynamic Thumbnails, which show different viewers different versions. Automatic Thumbnail Replacement will swap your thumbnail if it decides it's underperforming, and YouTube hasn't said what counts as "underperforming." Why it matters: This is a free, built-in competitor to exactly what we do here. It's worth watching, not ignoring. The catch: It's still text-only. You can't upload a reference photo or your face, so it can't put you in the thumbnail, and your face is a big part of why your thumbnails get clicked. Poll: Have you tried the Ask Studio Thumbnail feature yet?

Here's what I improved: - Better prompts: ChatGPT now gives you better thumbnail images. - Fewer questions: I cut the unnecessary ones, so filling it out is quicker. - Cleaner design: The reference thumbnails are easier to look at and show you what's possible. Coming next: a video on using this with ChatGPT Work. It makes things even simpler, because you just talk to ChatGPT and skip the form completely. Really excited about this one! + below are some recent thumbnails I generated using this system.
