Want a fast-track to becoming a consumer credit legal expert? Most of us have Gmail. Did you know that on a desktop interface you can go to the “waffle/app-launcher/9-dot-widget-thingy” and most of us should have in our Google app marketplace an ai 🤖 app called “Notebook LM”. What’s special about Notebook is, unlike other models, you can import what you want it to learn—or extract data from—and it will ONLY reference what you give it for information. This means no inaccurate sources, what it found on Reddit, Wikipedia, etc. How does this pertain to you in credit repair? Well, if you’re new, you can tell it to import FCRA, FDCPA, TILA, or any other laws and court cases you would like (directly from legitimate government websites) and then reference this information whenever you have a legal question. Just be advised that it isn’t amazing at how you should structure or strategize credit disputing with this info but it is SPOT ON when it comes to the information itself. Hope this helps. - Trae

Basic Dispute Decision Tree Graphic
Designed to address general inaccuracies and timing issues for a wide variety of negative items but specific legal nuances mean some items require more specialized handling. - Negative Items Covered by the Existing Graphic - The current decision tree effectively covers the most common negative items because the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) applies a shared standard of "maximum possible accuracy" and a seven-year reporting limit to them. - Collections and Charge-offs: The sources explicitly group these two categories together. Both generally cannot be reported for more than seven years from the date 180 days after the original delinquency began. Both can be challenged for accuracy regarding balances and "re-aging". - Late Payments: These are classified as "adverse item(s) of information" and are subject to the same seven-year limit. They are best disputed using the Section 607(b) standard for consistency across bureaus and accuracy of the reported status. - Hard Inquiries: The existing logic covers these using Section 604, which mandates that reports only be furnished for "permissible purposes," such as with your written instructions."
