The Automation Hierarchy
Most businesses want AI automation.
But they're skipping the fundamentals.
Here's the actual hierarchy:
Level 1: Clean data capture
Your information needs one source of truth. Not scattered across emails, texts, and sticky notes.
Level 2: Basic workflows
"When X happens, do Y automatically." This alone solves 60% of admin headaches.
Level 3: Cross-system integration
Your CRM talks to your invoicing. Your scheduler talks to your inventory. Data flows without human intervention.
Level 4: Smart automation
Systems that adapt based on conditions. "If customer is VIP, assign to senior tech. If job is within 5 miles of current location, prioritize."
Level 5: AI-driven decisions
Predictive scheduling, demand forecasting, intelligent routing.
The pattern I keep seeing: businesses want Level 5 results with Level 0 infrastructure.
Then they wonder why it doesn't work.
You can't build intelligent systems on top of messy data and undefined processes.
Start at Level 1. Master it. Then climb.
