Client discovered I resell the same automation to everyone. Asked for a discount. I raised his price.
The confrontation: "We know you sell this to other law firms." "Yes." "So it's not custom for us?" "Correct." "Why are we paying $1,000/month?"
My response: "Because it saves you $8,000/month. Want me to make it custom? That's $2,000/month."
They kept the standard version.
The reality check:
  • McDonald's sells the same burger to everyone
  • Netflix shows the same movies to everyone
  • Your automation solves the same problem for everyone
What they're actually paying for:
  • Not building it themselves
  • Not maintaining it
  • Not fixing it at 2 AM
  • Not training their team
My current "same solution" empire:
  • 12 law firms using identical contract parser
  • All pay $800-1,200/month
  • Total setup time: 4 hours (once)
  • Monthly maintenance: 1 hour each
  • MRR: $11,400
The n8n/make/zapier template powering everything: Zapier, Make, n8n - "Smart Document Data Extraction Pipeline" Literally copy-paste for each client.
The lesson: Stop customizing everything. Solve one problem perfectly. Sell it repeatedly.
Who else is pretending every client needs a unique solution?
