Agent Zero v2.9 is out - Meet the Agent Editor

This is the Agent Editor release. Creating custom agents no longer requires touching a single JSON or YAML file.

This is a new, full interface for creating, customizing, and managing agent profiles directly from the Web UI. Easy mode covers identity, instructions, model preset, and avatar for a quick start. Advanced mode gives you granular control over every part of the framework: framework prompts, agent prompts, and everything that revolves around them, edited in a full-height code editor. Changes are sparse and non-destructive, so your overrides layer on top of defaults and inherited profiles can always be restored.

Tool, MCP, and Skill policies:

Every agent gets explicit default switches plus per-item controls for tools, MCP servers, and skills. Decide exactly what each agent can and cannot use, and the policy is enforced everywhere: prompts, schemas, execution, and delegated agents. Profiles can be global or project-scoped with clean inheritance.

One-command agents:

Type /profile "research-analyst" "You analyze papers and produce structured reports" and you get a new agent plus a fresh chat with it. Works in both the Web UI and the CLI. There is also /permissions, which opens the current profile's policy editor straight from chat. The attached video shows both flows.

A Migrate Agents plugin for bringing older profiles forward with preview and import safeguards, Time Travel retention with automatic background cleanup of orphaned history, improved Kokoro voice blending, and a security fix for an SSRF regression in document queries (CVE-2026-4308). Updating is recommended.
