The Classroom holds the full UK PPL theory syllabus as study decks, one course per exam subject. Each course is split into lessons that follow the CAA learning objectives in order. Open Classroom and pick the subject you are revising. If you have not started, Air Law is a sensible first course. In each course, open the lesson called How to use this deck, then work through the lessons in order. In Flight Performance and Planning that how-to-use lesson is currently last. Read it first anyway. Where a slide says confirm in approved material, check that figure against your current CAA or approved training notes. Those numbers change. Helicopter-only blocks are labelled and are not on the aeroplane paper. Sample radio calls use a fictional callsign. Questions go in PPL Theory & Exams. Say which subject and which lesson you are on. Study Aids is for one-page cards and mnemonics. Use those as reminders, not as the full notes.

Welcome to Aerobase — UK PPL & Beyond
Welcome aboard. This is a home for UK pilots and students chasing their Private Pilot Licence — and for those already looking at what comes next: night rating, IMC/IR(R), more hours, or a longer aviation path. What this community is for - Straight answers on PPL theory and the CAA exams - Practical flying tips and progress check-ins - Honest talk about schools, costs, and training decisions - Space to ask the “stupid” questions (they’re not stupid) How to get started 1. Drop a quick intro under this post: where you are in training (or post-PPL), what you’re working on, and one question you’d love answered. 2. Browse the categories and post where it fits — Theory, Flying, or Beyond PPL. 3. Keep it respectful and UK-focused; no spam or hard sell. Brought to you by Aerobase. Glad you’re here — introduce yourself below and ask anything.

Air Law: Class D transit — when do you call?
You're routing near a UK Class D CTR and want a transit. When do you usually call for clearance — well before the boundary, or closer in? What’s your timing, and what phraseology do you use?

Met: radiation fog on a calm autumn morning — go or delay?
Calm night, clear skies, light winds — classic radiation-fog setup for a UK autumn morning. The Met Office and your airfield METARs both mention fog or mist around dawn. Would you plan an early departure, delay until it burns off, or scrub and rebook? What’s your personal go/no-go rule for fog as a student or low-hours PPL — and what made you choose it?

Ops: joining the circuit at an unfamiliar UK airfield — overhead, downwind, or what?
You’re inbound to an airfield you haven’t used before. ATIS or the plate says one thing; the club culture might say another. Do you plan a standard overhead join, join downwind, or something else — and what would you tell a student to do on their first visit? Drop your usual join and why in the comments. Curious what different clubs teach.
