Mid-Day Workout for Focus & Energy Boost
I wanted to share my routine for recharging my focus and energy in the middle of the day. I've found that doing a mid-day workout makes a huge difference in my productivity and mental clarity, and it might work for you too.
Here’s what my day looks like:
  • Morning Walk: I start my day (around 7am) with a 20-minute walk. It helps me wake up, get some fresh air, and sets a positive tone for the day. * I do live the PNW though so some winter walks are indoors.
  • Focused Work Until 1 PM: I eat a pre-made breakfast (this is key and will make a post about it later) dive straight into work after my walk and stay focused until lunchtime.
  • 45-Minute Mid-Day Workout: At 1 PM, I do a 45-minute workout session. It could be strength training, cardio, or a mix (The more sluggish I am feeling the more mindless the workout – super sluggish = treadmill set to a pace and distance I know I can do so it pushes me to actually have a good workout or fall off the back of the treadmill).
I’ve noticed that this mid-day workout gives me a big energy boost and helps me regain focus.
Why This Works:
Apparently exercise increases the release of neurotransmitters like dopamine and norepinephrine—both of which are essential for focus and motivation. ADHD brains tend to be low on these neurotransmitters, which can lead to issues with attention and energy levels. By doing a workout in the middle of the day, I’m giving my brain that extra push to stay focused and productive in the afternoon.
Would love to hear if this works for you or if you have other routines that help keep you focused!
