Dementia and Voting: The Truth People Get Wrong
A lot of people don’t realize this… but having dementia does NOT automatically take away someone’s right to vote.
A resident can still vote as long as they are able to express a choice and understand what voting means in a basic way.
A diagnosis alone doesn’t remove that right.
I think this is important to talk about because we work with these individuals every day, and they still deserve dignity, independence, and a voice.
Just because someone has dementia doesn’t mean they stop being a citizen.
Have you ever helped a resident vote before?
