The Truth No One Tells You About Loving a Veteran with PTSD
Trigger warning: raw language and honest feelings. Yeah — married to the soldier who looked put together in uniform. Proud of his service. Friends thinking you’ve got your sh*t together. Like you’ve made it — security, safety, the dream. But what happens after they hang up their boots and the real world kicks in? That’s when the real sh*t starts. That’s when the weight lands on us. This life is messy. Sometimes we want to scream. Sometimes we want to call them selfish or stupid. Sometimes we lie awake furious and exhausted, angry that our needs vanish into the background. Sometimes we want to walk away because we’re at our breaking point, and the balance we’ve made to survive feels like a thread we’re barely holding. Here’s the truth: veterans often have medical services, benefits, and structured systems of support. But for partners who live with the daily fallout of PTSD, there is very limited help. We’re left holding the invisible weight — with little recognition, few outlets, and almost no support. That’s why this program exists. Since 2015, we’ve built wellness retreats for couples, and now we’ve expanded to a global platform — to give spouses a voice, to connect us worldwide, and to recognize the reality of what we live. It doesn’t matter if your partner is a veteran or a first responder — the details of their trauma may differ, but our journeys carry the same common threads. The ones only other spouses can distinguish. Here, you’ll find: Weekly journaling prompts & “shadow thoughts” exercises Honest conversations and check-ins with other spouses Practical workshops on coping tools, doctors, benefits, and legal navigation Guest talks on boundaries, safety, and self-care This isn’t therapy. It’s a space to be honest without being judged. A space to name the shadow feelings we hide, and to share both the wins and the shame. If you’ve ever felt invisible, furious, guilty, or completely drained — you belong here. Name it. Be seen. Be raw. We see you. We live this too.
