Risky
I got a new client who asked me to teach their year 11 child, 2 hours every week. I said okay, I took him through the enrolment process and they loved it (including a 30 minute free consultation). I sent him an invoice for the whole month. He said he can't pay it all upfront. He will pay it on Monday on a weekly bases. Monday comes, the student is ready but the father has not paid. You messaged and called him but he does not pick up. It is possible the father forgot and will pay on Tuesday. What would you do and why? Vote and leave a comment !!!

Enjoyment
for those who have already launched their tutoring business, do you enjoy and look forward to your job ?

great question: it depends. Group classes are way more fun. Btw, our job as a tutor is to make sure every student is having fun and enjoying the classes. The more they enjoy, the greater the chance they'll benefit and the more they benefit, the more you get paid!! But one to one's can get boring, especially when you are in front of a student who really doesn't want to be there. Whilst the student is working, I tend to do other things like marking out students' homework to make my time more efficient. Nevertheless, our work is really chill. We are working from home, with the heater, with snacks, biscuits and tea and a minimum number of hours. So I can not complain lol.
Question
Inshallah, I’m planning to start online tutoring from January 2026 but I also want to start a sports tiktok content creation page. Do you think it is a bad idea to do both , time wise it is okay as I am not working at the moment, but I don’t want the sports content to affect tutoring.

I think you should give it ago, look at this guy called faze on TikTok, he is a maths teacher who does tutoring. He talks about weight lifting a lot so why not 👍👍 I talk about my interest in Somali culture and being in my home country, people like that too 👍
how many students can you realistically have at once?
as a one man band what is the realistic amount of students you can have? 20, 30, 50?

Last year I used to do 32 hours a week and it wasn't nice even though I was making a lot of money. Every day I was busy, it weren’t ideal

Definitely 20 hours, you can live your life as well brother. You have time to go to the beach or do things you’re interested in. 20 hours make 3-5k is really nice akhi

The next step for me personally is to leave the uk to Egypt or wherever your from 😂🤣 but if your content with the uk and the lifestyle you got then I would consider outsourcing the work to other people.

Also brother look into group classes more, start grouping your most loyal clients and give them a slight discount. See how that works
