Ask your questions!
I'm planning to do the next zoom session but want to make it the most efficient for you guys. I need you guys to start sharing the topics you want to discuss in depth and ask questions. Everyone is in a different experience level, I'll try to help everyone. - Selecting a unit - Gear - E-Scouting - Actual Scouting - Locating and Calling elk - or anything else.

With e-scouting … I have heard folks say look for edge habitat… north facing slopes… benches… saddles…water… etc. But when you look on a map, I feel like I can see tons of those different spots on a map. But how do I figure out which of those areas are good and likely to hold elk? So tips for using e-scouting to find areas that are likely to find elk??
E-Scouting For Elk
Quick video about E-Scouting and why it's important. You have to understand the terrain and be familiar with ridges, creeks, and timber. 3D view of terrain will give you much deeper understanding of how it will look like when you show up to the area to Scout or Hunt during the season. I want to encourage all members to ask questions if you don't understand something or other things that you have interest in learning and want me to discuss or make a video about. Tell me what you want to learn and let's dig deeper int to the elk knowledge together.

My first year archery hunting (2 years ago), it was early September and I was letting out some bugles into this tiny canyon and we thought a bear was grunting or growling back and while I had a bear tag, I wanted to get an elk so we left that area… and then this last year I was listening to ElkNut’s calling videos and noticed that elk can make that similar grunt / growl sound and so now I am wondering if we left a bull 😂
Greetings
Still feel like a relatively new hunter… Been hunting for 3 years now. I live in the Portland metro area but been hunting out in Eastern Oregon. Primarily been hunting for deer and elk. Definitely had some beginners luck with first deer hunt; tagged out on the last night on more of a fluke but tagged out nonetheless. First year hunting elk was the OTC second season for Eastern Oregon. Realized that this tag was gonna suck hunting and so I decided I would try archery hunting elk during the rut and loved it! First season wasn’t anything crazy to write home about. Found elk in one spot but couldn’t figure out how to hunt it. Last year we started getting into the elk some more — figuring out how to call a bit, calling them in and finding them. Had a couple of fun encounters that left me with valuable life lessons 🤣 but not tagging out 😇

@Eugene Sivyy Yeah… maybe what I should say is, I’m not experienced, knowledgeable or talented enough to hunt the 2nd season OTC in eastern Oregon. At least with the archery rut hunt, elk are somewhat more vocal and a seemingly easier to find (at least for a rookie, ha 🤣).

@Michael Baltezore I guess sometimes it’s better to be lucky than good 😂 I am still not sure why elk were in the areas I found them in. I definitely have taken a less than traditional approach by cow calling frequently — most of the guys I know who have been hunting for years tell me not to do that but I am not smart enough to find elk without the elk calling back and telling me where they are 😂
Welcome New Members
Welcome to ElkSpy 👊 Glad you’re here. I created this community to give hunters a place to actually learn how to find elk, build a plan, and improve every season — not just scroll random tips. A lot of you already follow the YouTube channel, so this is where we can go deeper, ask questions, and actually break things down together. By the way, this is a Brand New Community and as of right now its in the "building" stage with few members and little content, but in the next few weeks I'll be adding the structure, the lessons, and actual elk hunting content. Expect to learn everything about elk hunting in Oregon and Washington but this stuff you will also apply to any other state you decide to hunt. 🔥 Quick start: 1. Introduce yourself (where you hunt + experience level) 2. Check out the Classroom and download the free scouting plan 3. Start asking questions — don’t overthink it 4. Inside here I’ll be sharing:• E-scouting breakdowns• How I look at terrain and eliminate bad areas• Real strategies that actually apply in the field• Mistakes I’ve made (so you don’t repeat them) Also just so it’s clear — There are two levels to ElkSpy: 🟢 This community (FREE)→ A lot of value, ideas, and direction to help you improve. 🔴 ElkSpy Masterclass (PAID)→ This is for guys who have hunted a few seasons, still struggle to find elk, and want the full system step-by-step. Inside the Masterclass I go deep into:• Breaking down your unit• Building full custom hunt plan for your season• Elk calling sequences that work No pressure at all — just want you to know what’s available. This group is for hunters who actually want to get better. If that’s you, you’re in the right place. Drop an intro below 👇Where are you hunting this year?

@Patrick Scheel I’ll need to test that out next time I’m at the range… need to get back out there ASAP anyway… I’ve seen some other folks share a similar theory and it makes sense to a degree so. 🤷‍♂️
Hey! Excited to be here
I’ve enjoyed watching your videos for a while now. I’ve been hunting western Washington for the last few years. I’ve killed a few deer and 1 bear. I’ve been completely skunked on elk though. Most of my success has felt like luck to be honest

@Isaiah Mcneal Interesting… I figured there would be more folks hunting the coast because of its proximity to the i5 corridor. But I haven’t been hunting long (3 years) and haven’t hunted any of the coastal range so I would not actually know. Do you find yourself bumping into hunters often out there?
