My first experience was buying a revolver to be able to protect myself in the wilderness. It was at a very nice little store on watt and roseville, run by an older knowledgeable man. There was no customers besides me at that time of the day, so I had a chance to get as much information about laws and guns as possible. Took my safety test and walked away with the gun(just kidding, 10 days later). Ended up buying multiple things from that store before they closed.
