The Foundation Most People Skip
Stabilize First: Why Concentration Comes Before Everything Most people try to go straight into insight, visualization, or more advanced practices. But their attention isnโt stable. So nothing really lands. โ If you canโt stabilize your attention, everything else stays inconsistent. Thatโs the foundation. โ A simple way to understand your practice: Center of gravity โ where you are right now Trailing edge โ whatโs already stable Leading edge โ what youโre growing into If you donโt know these, youโre guessing. If you do, you can actually train. โ At the beginning, itโs fine to explore. Different teachers. Different methods. But at some point, you have to commit. Otherwise, you stay scattered. โ Today we worked with a simple concentration practice: Sit upright Relax the body Feel the breath Stay with it Again and again. โ I used the metaphor of training a wild elephant. Your mind doesnโt settle because you want it to. It settles because you train it. Gently. Consistently. Repeatedly. โ If your meditation feels unstable, donโt add more. Go back to concentration. Stabilize first. Everything else builds on that. โ Where are you right now in your practice?
