Preparedness isn’t about being completely ready, It’s not about having everything you think you need. It is about starting where you are Where you can And with what you have Just start. Just organizing what’s already there, right? I think the trap I fall into quite a bit is that I know I have a bunch of stuff (gear, food, etc.) so I get lazy thinking we’ll be okay. But whenever there’s an issue, the scramble to find the stuff scattered everywhere is the strain.

We actually had ice in Tampa Bay this morning! Without fail, I always make the noob mistake of trying to clear the windshield with my wipers and fluid while I’m driving.

I like it. Simple action step. I recently tried saving a different zip code with it while I was out of town. Seemed to work well for getting notifications for local hazards when a wind storm came through. Changed it back to my zip code when I got home.
Community Resiliency: The End Goal
No man (woman) is an island. I’m sure you’ve heard that before. I’m REALLY happy to have found and joined this Skool community. You know why? Because community is what will save us one day when we’re facing an emergency. I imagine most people are looking for a way to prep their own house. Me too. I don’t want to depend on others. That’s not a bad trait to have. I’ve got food and supplies for me and my family. To me, that shows agency. Strength. However, even the best of us miss something. Inevitably. The one thing I forgot to include in my kit. The one thing I needed to fortify my house before the oncoming storm. That’s going to be the thing that jeopardizes my family’s safety. In that moment, the only thing that MIGHT save me and my family from harm… My neighbor. And I pray to God that it is a Good Neighbor! One of my goals this year, besides being more engaged in Skool, is to find community locally. Time banks. CERT groups. Jiu jitsu clubs. Community gardens. Take your pick. Especially when it comes time to recover after a disaster. If all the prep I did fails, I hope my neighbor was prepping too. And the other neighbor. And their neighbor. I’m really happy to be in this community. We need MORE emergency managers. We need MORE preppers. We need MORE homeowners with a sense of agency. We need MORE good neighbors. What are you all doing to build a sense of community in your local social circles?

@Chanel Jones great points. It seems rallying the community around preparedness is a huge public health social marketing opportunity.

Nice. Practical suggestions, and they follow the emergency supply kit guidelines at ready.gov. It’s amazing to me how many prepper/survivalist enthusiasts don’t even have this, or don’t even have a 72-hour kit.
