"Facee-bookee." "Tele-fonee." When I first met my wife, she told me she had just "walk-ed" the dog. But my favorite story of my Brazilian wife happened while she was in A&P school (that's school for aspiring aircraft mechanics). For context: your grade in A&P school has two parts. One is academic, the other is practical — the hands-on portion. She was the only girl in her class. One day they had a pop quiz in sheet metal class. Every guy in the class got an A. She got a B. Naturally, they all started giving her a hard time. She wanted to make a point that she'd done very well too — so she reminded them the quiz was in English. Of course they all got A's. If the test had been in Portuguese, she'd have gotten the A, and every one of them would have failed! She also wanted to make the point that the academic score isn't what matters most — what matters most is the hands-on part. But that's not quite how she said it. She exclaimed: "What matters most is the hand jobs — and I am the BEST at the hand jobs!" Jaws hit the floor. Confused by their reaction, she doubled down and reminded them that she had the highest "hand job score" in the entire class. Her classmates then had the honor of explaining to her that... that does not mean what she thinks it means.
